As we get older our brains start to ease back on their performance, this especially manifests itself in increased forgetfulness and the memory not be as sharp in recall as it once was. While this is part of a natural process. It is one that can be managed and we can give our body all that it needs to prevent this from happening.
In our diets which have so much processed foods we sometimes miss out on the nutrients and minerals, such as fatty acids, B12 and Folci acid, that our body needs to keep brain functioning at optimum capacity.

Do you have a
memory that lets you start a sentence but forget what you are talking about half way through the sentence. Studies have show people who suddenly forget what they are looking for is often down to a lack of Vitamin B12, B6 and Folic acid. All of these memory boosting foods can be found in a food that is high in wholegrain. Think Pastas, Cereals, Wheatbran, brown bread.
Sunflower Seeds.
Another powerful anti-oxidant is Vitamin E. It is high in anti-oxidants that fight the chemicals that cause aging and memory decline. Just one ounce of Sunflower seeds can give you a 1/3 of your daily Vitamin E needs. Other memory aiding sources of Vitamin E include Peanut Butter, Spinach, Kiwi and Mango.

Fruits such as Blueberries have a chemical that counteracts the decline of memory. Other fruits such as Goji berry are believed to have these as well. Tomatoes contain Lycopene, which is used by the body to fight the actions of free Radicals that damage brain cells and lead to a dementia and
memory loss.
Go for several pieces of fruit a day to ensure that you are getting the minerals that you need.
Fish.
The Japanese on average are the healthiest and most living of any people in the world. They have amongst the lowest levels of depression, mental disorders. It is quiet common to see people over a hundred years of age in Japanese villages. They love fish and this means they never go short of omega 3 oils. These oils are also found in Linseed and flax and are an essential element of keeping our nervous system functioning. If you are a vegetarian, then eating tofu or Soya can meet these needs as well. I’m not a fan of fish so I add Tofu in to my dishes, unless my memory forgets.
The best way to ensure that your memory is up to speed is that you have a balanced diet and exercise. That these foods are included in your diet on an ongoing basis, that you cut back on smoking or alcohol. After a few weeks you’ll forget what it was like to have a poor memory as your body receives the nutrients it needs to stop the decline in memory.
