Breast cancer has many different signs and symptoms. According to the American Cancer Society (ACS), "Breast cancers that are found because they are causing symptoms tend to be larger." It is important to do regular self breast exams. Self breast exams, coupled with mammogram screening may detect breast cancer in its earliest stages.

Prevention

While breast cancer isn't preventable, being aware of the signs and symptoms of breast cancer are crucial to early detection.

Lump

Warning signs of breast cancer may include the discovery of a lump in one or both breast. Additionally, the areas of the breast tissue my feel thicker or harder than other areas.

Discharge

Although not always, some individuals may have a bloody discharge from the nipple of the breast. This can be an early warning sign of breast cancer.

Size And Shape

When breast cancer is present, there maybe be a change is the size or shape of the breast. In some cases, an inverted nipple may be present.

Skins Appearance

Skin that resembles an orange peel, is flaking, pitted or reddish in color, may be a sign of breast cancer.
