When looking into a healthier lifestyle, a lot of women start examining their makeup & skincare. Why does my skin break out? What will help repair damage? Where can I find natural ingredients? This is when its time to start looking into mineral makeup!
Why switch?
The most common question I get is What is mineral makeup? When it comes to mineral makeup, its more about what's not in it. Mineral makeup is categorized more for what it doesn't contain such as preservatives, parabens, dyes, & unnatural fragrances. Why is this so beneficial? Ask your dermatologist! Most skincare reactions are caused my additives which aren't present in strictly mineral brands. Mineral makeup is much less likely to cause skin irritation for sensitive skin or unsightly skin reactions. In fact, because it contains zinc oxide, it can often help relieve redness. You'll also find zinc oxide in some anti-inflammatory ointments. On top of that, mineral makeup doesn't contain oils so it won't irritate acne prone skin! This often helps eliminate minor breakouts from incorrect product usage. Many women don't even consider it could be their foundations causing the problem!
Things to Consider
Although mineral makeup has some distinct positives, there are also facts to learn. If you have fine lines or wrinkles you're concerned about hiding, a full mineral face might not be for you. Many makeup artists steer clear of mineral makeup completely because of this. I've found using a great concealer (both mineral & not) helps immensely. Just like a good primer, concealer helps your mineral makeup glide on as expected.
Because of its ability to camouflage without adding oils, mineral makeup is wonderful for hot, humid months. Winter months, however, can be a bit more tricky. For dry skin, mineral powders need to be applied over a moisturized surface. If you have dry skin or eczema, always make sure you moisturize prior to application or else you can make the area appear noticeably drier or even flakey. If you are a woman of color, you may also have a difficult time color matching. Unfortunately, this is simply one of the pitfalls of the craze that hasn't been addressed yet.
